ABOUT THE LIBRARY
This area is a partial record of my personal fiction
library, with annotations on my thoughts about the various
works that inspired me over the years. It is ongoing work,
so not all my books are here yet, nor are all my comments.
It's also not a definitive inventory of all copies I have
for each book. I have some books two or three times over,
but I generally only list one of them here, unless there's
a reason not to.
Of course you should not use this as a bibliographic reference. I don't have all the books from all the authors represented.
As the purpose of this library is to inspire young people to
read fiction, I do not list many of my nonfiction books.
But if I do, I'll list them in this
color.
I have divided authors into three loosely defined groups:
Fantasy, Fairy Tales, and Adventure. But most stories have overlapping genres and subgenres. Fairy tales are a form of fantasy,
and certainly many fantasies are also adventures. Also some
authors write in multiple genres. So you will find some
authors duplicated across the groups.
The fairy tales list contains short narratives of classic
folklore (what we usually call "fairy tales")
or children's fantasy that seems to draw from that well.
Adult or young adult fantasy, even if it's based on folklore,
is in the fantasy section. By the way, Science Fiction,
Space Opera, Supernatural Horror, and Alternate Realities
are all major sub-genres of Fantasy, so the Fantasy list
includes them, although I left out most of my horror except
for a few classics. Fairy tales are another major sub-genre
of Fantasy but I separated those out because they are a
different style of prose.
Technically all fiction is Fantasy in one form or another,
but let's not go there.
